About Rippa Jackson:
Rohan Thompson performs under the name Rippa Jackson and hails from Portmore which is, some say, Jamaica’s second capital city.
Initially finding and honing his vocal skills in church at the age of 10, he has gone on to perform with reggae stalwarts like Luciano, Capleton and Bushman to name a few; was instrumental in setting Jah Cure on his musical path and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in reggae music as well as being a staple on the local and international music scene. Sounds like a lot for one artist – not when you’re talking about Rippa. His music reaches the young and old and highlights his diversity whether he is singing roots and culture, lover’s rock or writing lyrics with stinging commentaries on everyday life. With a melodious baritone voice, he is not averse to reaching the higher octaves so that no two songs sound alike. He draws much of his inspiration from the natural elements around him when composing his music.
Rippa’s music is uplifting, conscious and inspiring, but most of all he wants the listener to take away the message – that the path to a fulfilling existence is to lead a spiritual and righteous life. One of his major goals is to dialogue with the younger generation through his music, but he doesn’t stop there, he is actively reaching out to the youths in his community and in addition to his music, runs a session at a New York community college where he had lead lively discussions on the meaning of Rastafari.
