Sing-jay Christina Starz is quickly becoming a hot pick among her female contenders with her dynamic personality, stunning good looks and raunchy lyrics. Once known as a lukewarm Lady Marsha, Christina decided to revamp her image, re-energize her sound and re-establish herself to emerge stronger in the game a quest she believes will separate the women from the girls. “I feel like I am born again,” she said laughing, “People loves the new name”. Christina Starz is also working with an image coach, voice trainer and a health and fitness consultant to get herself in shape for the grueling demanding world of showbiz. “I am ready to take on the world right now,” she said.
Born Marshaire Rose on June 27, 1983, in Montego Bay St. James, she attended Riverside Basic School when she joined the youth choir. As she got older, she joined the Kids for Christ ministry at the Riverside Open Bible church where she sang regularly. After graduating from Mount Alvernia High in 1999, she dabbled briefly with the idea of doing cosmetology before deciding to attend the Kenilworth Art Academy to study marketing and sales management etc. She soon migrated to the Turks & Caicos Islands for several years where she held various jobs in administrative and junior management levels. However, she always nursed a desire to get involved in entertainment and during her leisure time, would write songs and seek avenues to showcase her talent.
Christina’s persistence paid off and she landed her first gig to perform at the Turks & Caicos Music and Culture Festival on August 3, 2007. The experience was very encouraging and urges her to hone her skill for the big leagues. Christina then turned her attention to the Blackout recording studio in Turks and Caicos but eventually in 2008 she decides to return to Jamaica, home of the music to which she intend to pursue a career. On her return to the island and in searching for a Publicist to work with her, Christina travelled Kingston and later hooked up with LA Lewis who gave her the name Lady Marsha, their business relationship ended in a barrage of nasty headlines and an ongoing court case that she is anxious to put behind her. Christina’s advice to other upcoming acts looking to get involved in showbiz is to “believe in yourself, try to accomplish whatever goals you have in life and always put God first.
Christina formed her own label and recording company, Starz International Records which will also handles her publishing. “I have registered the trademark and copyrighted the name and everything. I feel like a new woman, in charge of my own destiny and the future looks bright,” she said. Starz International released its first single entitled “Stranded”. ‘The single is a feel-good song that makes fun of people who flaunts their wealth and pap down inna life’ says Christina. ‘Stranded has a distinctive flavour that the people dem like’. Taking a new approach, Christina hit the streets promoting the single, “I am getting a lot of positive feedback from selectors within the dancehall community. It’s been a bit tough but the responses are humbling as many people seem to be gravitating towards the new look and energy”.
