Destroy Babylon, Boston’s purveyors of punky-dub-reggae, have a unique new record titled Culture Pirates. The release includes a 7″ colored vinyl single of “Culture Pirates” on the A-side, and their dubbed-out cover of Alice Coltrane’s “Journey in Satchidananda” on the B-side. The record is packaged in a beautiful 28-page art book featuring the work of a dozen different artists, all doing their own version of a Culture Pirate. It also comes with 10 bonus digital downloads, including the single “Culture Pirates,” which is currently receiving airplay on college radio across the nation and finds the band incorporating elements of 1960’s pop in the mix with it’s soaring vocal harmonies, plus “Gimme Dub” which recreates a Black Uhuru classic into a foot-stomping dub-rock anthem, and a lot more! Released on the band’s own Music ADD Records, and available now atDestroyBabylon.com.
Destroy Babylon now has the honor of supporting one of their biggest influences, not to mention one of the most important figures in reggae music, Lee “Scratch” Perry, plus the most legendary band from Jamaica, the Wailers. Having just completed a successful DIY Midwest tour, a run of shows with another Jamaican legend Eek-A-Mouse, while continuing their Dub of the Month Club, this is the summer to Destroy Babylon.
