I recently had the distinct pleasure of witnessing the cool, smooth performance of one of the greatest reggae singers to emerge on the scene this year, Hezron.
I make no apologies to boast that he has the perfect package to drive the ladies crazy and melt them right into his arms. And the Reggae Sumfest ladies, myself now his number one fan, weren’t spared his awesome physique and good looks, oh, and of course that breathtaking voice that could sing to me any night.
Performing on International I, Friday, July 24, of the 17th staging of Reggae Sumfest, the greatest reggae festival on earth, Hezron delivered a truly magnificent performance befitting Sumfest’s superior international quality.
At first curious about MC Elise Kelly’s exceptional introduction of this new talent, my heart almost stopped when I heard this sweet, smooth voice resonate across Catherine Hall, sending shivers down my spine. Belting out his original ‘So In Love’, Hezron held the audience spellbound and I wondered to myself ‘where on earth did that mesmerising voice come from?’
He had my full attention, and obviously that of the ladies who stood still waiting to see what came with such electrifying vocals. Mmmmmm, we surely weren’t disappointed as we feasted our eyes on dare I say a perfect specimen of a man. I was like ‘damn, where has this guy been all my life?’ He has an amazing voice, he’s cute, deliciously sexy and very well put together…wow! Now I know what Elise was talking about.
Attired in a classy white outfit with three backup singers in harmony, Hezron was a smooth operator during his stint on stage. I didn’t think he could have gotten any better, but when he hit the notes of ‘Missing You’ my heart melted. Yow, him wicked, bad! And his original lyrics perfectly capture the mood.
Sadly, I didn’t think he could disappoint me…at all…but he did. He hit the intro of one of my all time favourites ‘Ebony Eyes’ and at that point I was ready to propose to him. He had the perfect vocal to deliver this classic love song…but then he just cut it, quickly moving into the all inspiring ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’, with the audience waving and singing along.
Before I could get over that disappointment he announced that his time with us was coming to a close…my second disappointment for the night.
Hezron closed off his cool, smooth 15-minute stint with the beautiful and inspiring ‘We Shall Find A Way’, another original.
This is one artiste that I can confidently say had a way too short performance. Hezron was indeed one of the best acts of Sumfest 2009. As Elise puts it, “this is the kind of music, musician, artiste that makes the industry proud.†Very, very true words.
I later learnt he next hit the stage of St. Mary Mi Come From, followed by Beenie Sizzle on August 22. Before Beenie Sizzle, the singer is scheduled to serenade Miss Jamaica World on Saturday, August 22. Naturally, I envy her. She is one lucky girl.
I truly hope I get to see this fantastic singer in performance again…very soon. Maybe then he will sing the complete ‘Ebony Eyes’ for me.
Mmmmm, I wonder if he does private performances…lol…
