World Bank to provide loans to Sichuan quake-hit areaPublished: 15 Dec 2008 23:49:30 PSTDec. 16, 2008 (China Knowledge) – World Bank will provide US$510 million to the earthquake-hit areas in Sichuan province, Southwest China in January 2009, according to Robert B. Zoellick, president of World Bank.World Bank will help those people in the devastated areas back to their normal life through its global expertise and professional resources, said Zoellick during his four-day visit to China. US$450 million from the loans will be used to rebuild infrastructure in the urban areas, including roads, bridges, river banks, drainage network and waste disposal, etc, while the remaining is expected to be used for reconstruction of health and education facilities in the central site of the earthquake.
