Kingston, Jamaica: Popular dancehall artist Mr. Vegas catapulted his career to another level after delivering an unprecedented performance at the 11th Annual JAMROCK Reggae Fest on Saturday, June 14.
The crowd at Manhattan’s hip Hammerstein Ballroom roared with excitement as the singjay’s performance exceeded all expectations. Chock-full of energy, the dapper Mr. Vegas — donned in a perfectly tailored Armani suit and crisp Ferragamo shoes — enticed the crowd with an unforgettable, kinetic 45 minute set.
Mr. Vegas humbly graced the stage with his background singer Nicole Miller and The New Kingston band. As the audience was mostly in their seats at the beginning of his stint, he too was seated, while addressing them. He asked “Is this how you want me to perform?” Immediately, they shouted NO. Mr. Vegas then encouraged the swollen crowd to rise from their seats and that’s when the electrifying party began.
Mr. Vegas belted out a medley of songs in honor of Father’s Day. Then, Mr. Vegas unleashed an appealing montage of favorites from his extensive catalogue. He was later joined by his High Energy Dancers to infuse the crowd with dancehall smashes like “Hot Wuk,” “Tek Weh Yuhself,” and “We Nuh Wan No Friend.”
All the while, Mr. Vegas involved the audience – while delivering his fiery hits. It was clear that Mr. Vegas left his mark on the once unmoved crowd, as his name bounced through the crowd after his set.
“All I can say is that Mr. Vegas stole the show, putting an energy in Hammerstein Ballroom that set the pace for the rest of the night,” said David “Squeeze” Annakie, the event’s promoter, with excitement. “Vegas paved the path for the artists scheduled to appear after him……I have seen Vegas perform many many times, but this is clearly one of his best performances ever.”
Jamrock Reggae Fest also featured performances by some of today’s most respected Reggae artists like Beenie Man, Ky-Mani Marley, Third World, Assassin and Demarco to name a few. Many celebrities were also in attendance. Despite horrific weather and flooded streets, Reggae music fans turned out to the high profile event. As we speak, the massive are still raving of how Mr. Vegas jumpstarted the show – making it worth the while.
Mr. Vegas is currently tearing up the airwaves and the dancehall with new songs ‘Mus Come a Road’ and ‘Daggering.’ Additionally, Mr. Vegas has a host of 10th anniversary celebrations pegged for this summer, commencing with a West Coast Tour.
