The City of Mississauga in Ontario, Canada was turned Platinum courtesy of David Rodigan and Billy Slaughter of Stone Love who brought out the best and most sophisticated Dancehall fans for a night called Platinum Party 2K9.
Held at the Bels Banquet Hall, the two selectors gave hundreds of fans a musical highlight reel that included the latest and hottest tunes such as Vybz Kartel’s “Virginity,” Mavado’s “On The Rock,” and Vegas’s “Blessed.” The night also included a tribute to Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson and some of his most popular riddims; Punanny, and Nine Night, then selecting famous singles such as Supa Cat’s “Vineyard Party” and Half Pints “Greetings.”
The mature, and elegantly dressd audience’s continuous forwards with lighters and hands in the air proved that the golden era of the 80’s and 90’s Dancehall is still a favourite. One south Asian couple said “we look forward to platinum party every year. It’s the one Dancehall party of the year we don’t miss!” Another fan added “this is the only kind of party you’ll get great selection. Stone Love and David Rodigan – caan guh wrong!” The evening also featured music from Toronto’s veteran, Grandmaster Rosa, new coming sound Ghetto Fabulous and one of Toronto’s strongest sounds, Vertex Sound.
Produced and hosted by Fabo, the veteran Dancehall promoter thanked his loyal friends, family and fans for supporting the annual event. Also hosted by Nikki Hype, the hostess gave away prizes and surprises including tickets for a boat cruise! Celebrity appearances included Award winning culture singer Lutan Fyah, Swatch International’s Maestro, Picture Man Lloyd, Redemption’s Mr. Presto, MYC Entertainment’s Bigga Boss and Niyah as well as Action Promotions CEO, Eric.
