Jaydak (Fresh On Da Block), was the stage name given to him by his friends who originally called him ‘Dockers’ and then ‘Jaydak’ for short. A star amongst his peers, he had demonstrated a love and passion for music and songwriting from an early age.
Jaydak, born Jason Norland Duncan on March 30th, 1986, in St. Catherine, Jamaica is a Reggae/Dancehall artiste who grew up in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Even while attending St. Catherine High School, his close friends around him saw his potential and encouraged and nurtured him in an environment in which he could grow into whatever area of music he chose. As a result, he was always in and out of the studio. With a strong determination and an engaging personality, he set out confidently to making his mark in music when he started recording singles in 2005 while living in Jamaica.
In 2009, Jaydak moved to The Bahamas, where he continued to work on building a career in music. By this time, he had already recorded the single ‘3 o’Clock’ and was working with other artistes. However, it was the single ‘Make It In Life’, which was recorded and released in The Bahamas on August 23rd, 2013, that captured the attention of popular Bahamian Executive Producer and CEO of Yellow Entertainment, Gyhrmi Johnson, who later went on to being his mentor. Gyhrmi Johnson has been known to work with popular artistes such as Sean Paul, Shabba, amongst others. The single ‘Make It In Life’, was done on the ‘Heart 2 Heart’ riddim that was produced and engineered by local Bahamian artiste and producer, I-Rate, whose real name is Raymond John. The single, one in eleven tracks recorded on the ‘Heart 2 Heart’ riddim, soon captivated the attention and the likes of many.After his many attempts to make his mark in music, Jaydak became more and more inspired and determined to work harder at his dream. As fate would have it, his determination to press on in his music, caused for the meeting between him and said Gyhrmi Johnson of Yellow Entertainment, who would have undoubtedly impacted on the promising artiste he is today.
Jason ‘Jaydak’ Duncan believes that he was born with a gift to make positive and conscious music. For him, music is everywhere and it’s in everything. Music has always been at the center of his heart. The synergy between Jaydak and a riddim can only allow for a positive outcome. Today, Jaydak continues to work hard at his music, attending voice training lessons with popular vocal coach, Lee Callender and continues to write.He credits his position within the music industry to his friends and family who continues to influence him positively towards his career, and also to Gyhrmi Johnson, who has done the most save the Almighty, to push his music career to another dimension.
Jaydak does not intend to disappoint his mentor, his family nor his friends who all know that the sky is the limit for this young man, and who sees music as his mission and purpose. Jaydak is presently married to Keneisha Francis, former Investment Banker who strongly believes in her husband and his music, as she is also a lover of music herself. They have a 5 year old son, Jordon Duncan and are expecting their second child later this year.
