In the midst of a major east coast tour that spans from Ithaca to the Carolinas, reggae sensation Richie Spice graced the stage of New York City’s own S.O.B.s with a full house of nearly 500 fans Tuesday night. The one and only Actress/Singer/Comedian Bette Midler, was among the many, who jammed out to Richie’s full set. Richie opened up with classic hits like, “Blood Again” and “Marijuana,” and led into more current tunes like, “Brown Skin” and “Youth Dem Cold,” from his new critically acclaimed album In The Streets To Africa.
Since the release of In The Streets To Africa,Richie has remained on everyone’s radar. A+ and 4 star reviews are all across the board from Playboy Magazine to The Los Angeles Times to Spin Magazine. Richie’s new single ”Brown Skin” has spent 4 weeks at #1 on several charts in Jamaica and the Blackheart remix (on the Musiq Soulchild’s “Buddy” riddim) video is releasing next week . His other hot single “Youth Dem Cold” is currently at rotation on MTV Jams. Richie has also been nominated for Recording Artist(s)/Group of the Year, Best Male Vocalist, and Most Cultural/Educational Entertainer at this year’s 26th Int’l Reggae Awards held on May 8th at Harlem’s Apollo Theater.
