“Who is the Queen of Hearts” That is the question Sheba Sahlemariam is asking in her new campaign and the question will be answered in her forthcoming album.
The Ethiopian-born New York-based artiste has just released the first official single off the album “Queen of Hearts.” The single, entitled “Technicolor” is a very personal song she wrote after feeling burnt out from stress and then regaining her zest for life and music. “Technicolor was inspired by all the people that touched me at that time, that were there for me and reminded me that a full life is about relationships and loved ones. Love is all we really need,” explains Sheba.
Sheba also released a video for “Technicolor,” which the artiste created herself. The artiste shares the experience “I went out with a camera and walked around shooting people that inspired me, then we edited it up to capture a feeling that was universal and felt good. I didn't want the video to be about romantic love, because romantic love is only one type of love. It's beautiful but agape is more interesting and I wanted the video to spark that in people.”
The Queen of Hearts has a lot more in store for the remainder of 2012 as well as for next year. She has been recording consistently and has material ready to be released on a regular basis so her fans can experience more new music until the release of the “Queen of Hearts” album. The album will essentially be a pop record but with a strong cultural edge and international references reflecting the artiste’s experiences of living in various countries such as Ethiopia, Canada, Jamaica, Guyana and Germany.
