The William Morris Agency and the family of Bob Marley announce the launch of The Marley Family Presents: Roots, Rock, Reggae festival. The tour is scheduled to kick off at the end of July and run through the beginning of September.
This multi-city tour will play approximately 20-25 cities throughout North America with rotating supporting acts. To date, Bob Marley’s sons, Ziggy, Stephen, Julian and Damian, are all confirmed to perform.
The Marley Family Presents: Roots, Rock, Reggae is a fresh concept in summer music tours, setting itself apart from the numerous hard rock and alternative tours that are on the market by fusing music, art, and culture with infectious Rasta vibes. It will provide opportunities and exposure to many diverse, yet popular, music cultures that are often neglected by the mainstream. Roots, Rock, Reggae will maintain a high standard of musical talent throughout the tour, encompassing a dynamic mix of reggae, hip-hop, ska, blues, alt/country, electronic and soul music. All acts, along with special guest appearances, will be announced at a later date.
The festival takes its cue from Bob Marley, who through his inspired melodies, lyrics and soul, brought reggae music to a world-wide audience. His music, remains timeless and universal, as he was one of the most charismatic and influential singer/songwriters of our time.
Bob’s eldest son Ziggy has been singing, writing and producing with the multi-Grammy winning Melody Makers since the age of 10. He released his solo record ?Dragonfly? in the spring of 2003 on Private Music/Arista Associated Labels and has been touring to promote the album.
Stephen Marley has shown his diverse talents on the Melody Makers’ albums ? for which he has sung, deejayed, written and produced. Stephen will be releasing a solo record on the Motown label in the fall of 2004.
Since recording his first song at age five, Julian Marley, has become a skillful, self-taught musician, who has mastered the bass, drums and keyboards. Julian released his album, ?Time & Place,? in November 2003 on Ghetto Youths / Tuff Gong Records distributed through Lightyear.
The youngest of Bob’s children, Damian ?Junior Gong’ Marley, has been performing since the age of thirteen. His solo album, ?Halfway Tree,? received a Grammy award for Reggae Album of the Year in 2001.
The Roots, Rock, Reggae tour will mark the first time that the Marley family has officially presented and collaborated on a tour with one another, on national scope, under their father’s name.
Feel like dancing, dance ?cause we are free
